At present, there are seven copper producing bases
1.Copper base in Jiangxi
The copper ore source is the richest in Jiangxi of China. The known copper ore reserves occupied 1/3 of the country. It is the largest copper industry producing base. The Jiangxi copper base became the national key construction project in 1978. The Jiangxi Copper Company was built in 1979. Now, there are “six mines and two plants”: Dexing Copper, Yongping Copper, Wushan Copper, Dongxiang Copper, Chengmenshan Copper, Yinshan Copper and Guixi Smelting Plant, Shanghai Smelting Plant. The total known copper reserves is 13,870,000t. Dexing Copper is a super copper(molybdenum) ore field. It became one of the super big copper mine in Asia in 1993 when it plans the 100000t/d mining and dressing plan. The copper concentrates capacity is 102,000t per year from the five mines, which occupied 1/3 copper concentrates of CNNC, and 1/4 copper concentrates of China.
2.Copper base in Yunnan
Yunnan copper mine is rich, the proven copper reserves ranks the second in the country. The base is constitute by "four mines and one plant": Dongchuan, Yimen, Daoyao, Mouding four mines and Yunnan Smelting Plant. At present, they combined Yunnan Copper (Group) Co., Ltd., which is the second largest copper industry base. In 1996, the electric copper capacity is 100,000t per year, the copper concentrates capacity is 50,000t per year.
3.Copper base in Baiyin
Baiyinchang of Gansu is one of the rich mine area in China. It is consisted of deposits: Zheyaoshan, Huoyanshan, Tongchanggou, Xiaotieshan, Sigequan. For exploiting the mine in Baiyunchang, the Baiyin Nonferrous Metals Company was built in 1954. And the mining and metallurgy construction became one of key construction projects included in the country's first five-year program which opened the prelude of building large copper company in the 50th era of China. The Zheyaoshan, Huoyanshan trip mine and ore dressing plant and smelting plant were built in the three years of planning and construction from 1957 to 1959. The capacity became 50000t per year by technical improving of the designed 30000t per year, and became the largest copper mining and metallurgical joint company in China then.
4.Copper base in North-east
This base is consisted of a batch of medium and small scale mines, with early starting and quick construction. 1948-1950, Liaoning Qingyuan Copper (Gold) mine, China Copper Copper Mine, Furong Copper Mine, Ma Lugou Copper Mine and Jilin Shizuzi Copper Mine, Tianbaoshan Copper Lead-Zinc Mine resumed production, the Shenyang Smelting Plant resumed product on January of 1949. Since then, China's first copper mining and smelting appeared in the northeast region. It laied the foundation of the Chinese copper industry, and played a leading effect. It transported a large number of management personnel and science and technology backbone to the non - ferrous metal companies in China, and supported the development of the copper industry in China in 50s and 60s. Until 60s, the above mine mined were exhausted and closed. Hengshang, Hongtoushan took place of them and then purchased ore from other places, which keeping the continuous development of the north-east copper base. The copper concentrates capacity reached to 50,000t per year, the electro copper reached to 70,000t per year. Especially the large porphyry copper mine in Duobaoshan of Helongjiang could be the ore provided base of the north-east area. At the same time, the North-east base is still potential.
5.Tongling copper base
Tongling area of Anhui is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which is with good construction conditions and rich capitals. The total known the total capacity is 3,000,000t of the serious deposits of Tongguanshan, Shizishan, Datuanshan, Dongguasha, Fenghuangshan, Xinqiao, Guichi, Langyashan and Shaxi and so on. The base is also built early and started fast base,, which is the first annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of copper base at the "first five" program. Now, there are six mines and two smelting plants of Tongling Nonferrous Metals Company, which is a large-scale mining and metallurgical processing joint company with the copper concentrates capacity reached to 42,000t per year, the electro copper reached to 46,500t per year in 1996.
6.Daye copper base
Daye, Huangshi, Yangxin districts of Hubei are with rich copper resource, the total proven copper reserves is more than 360 million tons. “Six mines and two plants” are belong to Daye Nonferrous Metals Company with Tonglushan, Fengshandong, Tongshankou, Chimashan, Daye copper company, Xinye and other large and medium copper mines, one copper smelting plant and one copper processing plant. It became large-scale mining and metallurgical processing joint company with the copper concentrates capacity near to 20,000t per year, the coarse copper 61,600t per year, he electro copper 45,600t per year in 1996.
7.Zhongtiaoshan Copper Base
From the 50s, many large and medium copper mines are explored with proved copper reserves more than 330 million tons in Tongkuangyu, Xiaoxigou, Hujiayu, Bizigou and Lajiahe. Zhongtiaoshan Nonferrous Metals Company was established for exploring the mines in 1956. There are “three mines and two plants”, Tongkuangyu, Hujiayu, Bizigou etc large and medium copper mines, one smelting plant, one electrolytic copper factory, which consisted one joint cmpany with the main body of mining and smelting. The copper concentrates capacity near to 27,200t per year, the coarse copper 26,000t per year, he electro copper 11,600t per year in 1996.
